用開(kāi)源項(xiàng)目的一個(gè)風(fēng)險(xiǎn)是，一切技術(shù)問(wèn)題自行解決，關(guān)鍵看企業(yè)是否愿意承擔(dān)由此帶來(lái)的一系列問(wèn)題

跟其他許可證相比，從GNU通用公共許可證（GPL）到限制重重的著作權(quán)（Copyright），BSD許可證比較寬松，甚至跟公有領(lǐng)域更為接近。事實(shí)上，BSD許可證被認(rèn)為是copycenter（中間版權(quán)），界乎標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的copyright與GPL的copyleft之間。"Take it down to the copy center and make as many copies as you want"。[1]可以說(shuō)，GPL強(qiáng)迫后續(xù)版本必須一樣是自由軟件，BSD的后續(xù)版本可以選擇要繼續(xù)是BSD或其他自由軟件條款或封閉軟件等等。

開(kāi)放源代碼促進(jìn)會(huì)（Open Source Initiative，縮寫(xiě)：OSI），又譯作開(kāi)放原始碼組織，是一個(gè)旨在推動(dòng)開(kāi)源軟件發(fā)展的非盈利組織。

1998年2月，OSI由布魯斯·斐倫斯及埃里克·斯蒂芬·雷蒙等人創(chuàng)立，當(dāng)時(shí)網(wǎng)景公司為了與微軟的IE瀏覽器競(jìng)爭(zhēng)，將他們的旗艦產(chǎn)品網(wǎng)景瀏覽器發(fā)布成自由軟件。從OSI創(chuàng)立起，雷蒙就擔(dān)任主席，一直到2005年2月；之后Russ Nelson繼任了一個(gè)月，但因?yàn)橐恍?zhēng)論，他很快辭職；隨后Michael Tiemann擔(dān)任過(guò)渡期的主席。一些對(duì)自由軟件以及GNU/Linux感興趣的人，打算用更符合市場(chǎng)口味的方式來(lái)介紹自由軟件，試圖在商業(yè)中找到合適的位置，減少意識(shí)形態(tài)上的溝壑。這導(dǎo)致了開(kāi)放源代碼（Open source，簡(jiǎn)稱開(kāi)源）這個(gè)稱謂的產(chǎn)生，同時(shí)也導(dǎo)致與理查德·斯托曼及其自由軟件基金會(huì)的分道揚(yáng)鑣。
